Teaching Philosophy

Driven by the belief that curiosity is the greatest teacher, Sadie feels her role with students is to inspire excellence, cultivate artistry, and help them realize their fullest potential as independent learners. She affirms that this is best accomplished by creating a safe and FUN space where questions are king, mistakes welcomed, and positive reinforcement (and laughter!) is the norm.

Engaging.

Sadie believes that when students take ownership of their education, they become more receptive to the discipline needed for success. She lets students guide the learning process by meeting them where they are, adapting to their needs, and encouraging them to explore their musical interests.

Educational.

In a practical sense, her approach leads to a solid foundation in technique and competency in sight-reading, includes music history and written music theory, and utilizes age-appropriate games and listening activities.

Enjoyable.

Sadie feels an important part of piano lessons is sharing music with others. She offers a variety of performance opportunities and studio classes, encourages collaborating with other students, and sets the example by performing in her community and with her duo partner. She believes that this student-centered approach, fueled by curiosity and community, produces an attitude that leads to healthy practice habits, fosters artistry in even the youngest of minds, creates well-rounded musicians, and forms a lasting appreciation for the performing arts.
